95 F150 window motors repair or replace?

First Post!

So my Dad has a '95 F150 with power windows, and neither of them have "worked" for a few months now. For a while we both assumed it needed new motors, but after some reading (a bit of it here), I'm led to believe they have simply become disconnected from the running gear. You can hear the motors running when pushing the up button, and when pushing the down button there's a motor running sound and a clicking noise, like gears rubbing against each other.

What all would be involved in determining if maybe the mechanical connection between the motor and the lifting mechanism hasn't just come lose?

Pull the door panel off and take a look. If the guides popped off the drive gear, it might be an easy fix. More than likely, with the age of the truck; you will probably have to replace the power window assembly - I don't believe you will be able to replace and repair worn parts on it. The motors are about $25 to $35 ea through Rock Auto.

I'm sure that's probably what I'll need to wind up doing, but my main problem is that I'm not too sure of the parts and whatnot inside the door. I've heard everything called three different things. I'm used to working on GM vehicles :dunno:

So, how could I go about checking the guides?

Also, I've looked high and low for a window motor replacement tutorial. Haven't found one yet that doesn't use phrases and terminology I don't know, or just assumes I already know where all the bolts are (I don't).

I'm fairly lost here

The motors are pretty easy to replace. With the age of your truck I don't know if it uses a worm drive, gear drive or a pulley and cable assembly. If you've worked on vehicles then I think you will be okay. Pop the door panel off and take a look. The motor assemblies can be removed with loosening a few bolts.
