Picked up a 1990 F150 a while back. My winter truck and hauler for the shop. Not real pretty, but the engine runs great.

Nice! I'd love a extended cab short bed in that generation, love the straight lines.

Needed a bit of work, has a busted radius arm bracket, the center fuel tank had several holes in it, the fuel pumps didn't work, and a few other odds and ends. Just about everything is fixed now. Need to check a motor mount tomorrow, I think I have a bad one.

not bad for 20 years old!

Question is Dan, whos doing the wrenching :p

danthurs 01-13-2011 10:27 AM

I do all my own work. Don't trust anyone else. I get tons of cars in my shop, keeps me busy.

Purplehazeir 01-13-2011 08:01 PM

By the time you get done wrenching on it, you'll have a nearly new truck!

danthurs 01-13-2011 08:12 PM

Lots of new parts already, a few more and I'll be all done.

For awhile there buddy, I was thinking that maybe pulling of the radiator cap and slipping a new truck under it would be a better idea.

No way, truck has a good engine and drive train. Frame is in great shape. The exhaust needs to be replaced from the heads to the tail pipe though.

Not bad for a 1990. Any other plans beside just maintenance?

Dan's pretty good with the paint gun. I'm hoping some body work and paint are on his chore list!

danthurs 01-16-2011 03:17 PM

It's mainly my winter truck and for hauling scrap to the yard, and picking up parts. I might clean up the body a bit, it's really not all that bad, and I can paint if I wish. Should be able to paint it all for about $250. I want a brush guard on the front, and may beef up the bumpers. Not a fan of the stock ones. A large heavy hitch on back as well. Might even toss a hitch on the front, then make a winch setup that goes on the receiver so I can move it from front to back.

Good looking truck. Looks a lot like my f350. BTW what engine does it have?

westtntrucker 01-17-2011 01:41 PM

I had a 91 F150 300 fi L6 5spd. Between my father and I, we put over 350,000 miles on that truck and the only mechanical, other several clutches, was the timing gears were replaced at about 250k. We went ahead and stabbed in a new cam and lifters while it was apart. Finally traded it off and as far as we know, the dang truck is still going.
Treat 'em right and they go forever just about!

danthurs 01-17-2011 08:53 PM

The truck has a 5.0l with a 5 speed.
