Need some help

Hey all, I'm new to this forum but this is not my first forum. I have been to a couple different sites, none of which so far are very active hense me being here. Anyway, I ran into some trouble and I'm looking for some advise.

I was driving home Friday when my 1990 f-150 (302, AOD trans) started shaking violently. I pulled over and noticed a huuuge banging noise coming from my pistons. Haven't had the chance to pull the motor yet but considering the noises and running condition it's looking like time to replace the engine.

I am looking for something that isn't ridiculously expensive but is going to keep me content in terms of power and hauling capabilities. I'm not exactly sure what kind of engine to look for but I have the means to get something. I have a few ideas of what to look for but I would like some advise about what would be good for our trucks. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I found a rebuilt 302 Crate for $1500, comes with a 3 year warranty. Looks like a good deal, would like some input though...

Stock 302 crate or a Ford Racing 302 crate or JEGS customer 302? Big difference in HP and Torque...

It's the stock 302 Crate Longblock, also found a good deal on some GT40P heads.

Correction, only wants $850 for the crate longblock.
