Default Best Choice Of Headers

Not Sure if this subject has been discussed but, I need some feed back on a choice of Headers for my 2001 Harley Davidson F150. Long or short. Can I do an "H" pipe set up? I want that HARD GT 500 Sound and that "Eat My Smoke All Dodges" acceleration. What you Guys and Gals Think?

The headers wont give you more sound, they will add a bit of difference in your power curve and throttle response though. Long tube will give you better power through the entire power band, but are more difficult to install. The short tube headers and H pipes will give you more mid and upper range power. Whether or not you can do an "H" pipe will be dependant on your states smog laws, cat requirements, etc.

I Was told to go with the Long tubes. Not sure if I can do an "H" pipe. I would love to! As for the sound, Im sure the Longs would offer a more throaty sound. Any Brand you recommend? I don't want an El Cheapo brand. This is a One Time Thang! All Pipes will be Stainless.

Thanks Purplehazeir!!!

If you were told to go with a long tube header, then I'm not sure why you asked about a long tube or short tube. Whomever told you to go with the long tube probably has a better idea on which brand to go with than I.

There's much more to think about rather than just a header...resonator in or out, muffler brand/type, cats on or off, pipe diameter from collector, O2 sensor delete or keep, self install or pro install....etc.

Unless your going off road and racing, IMO - stick with the short tube headers (like Gibson). Long tube headers can be a bear to install and sometimes require other modification such as to the frame, transmission, starter, relocation of dip sticks, etc.

Because I have No Plans to redo this system, I want to make the best/right choice the first time. This is why I'm reaching out. I spoke with a reputable shop today. I was more upset by the time I was done talking with him. He never like install the Long tubes because of the work. He suggested I go short because it was easier. I'd rather have the power throughout the entire band. not jus top or bottom. What You explained earlier about the Longs is what I like. The best way to explain this is:
This Truck is My HotRod!!! This Truck will never be sold. I want the best I can get for the street. But I do not want to redo the system because I was misinformed. This truck will be my 69 Cobra.
My GT 500. I want this Truck to Rip The Streets. Something I can lay underneath and Just Be Very Happy Looking at it without even starting it! You see what I'm sayin!? Lord for Give me but "One Bad *** Truck" Not jus talk! But real action. This Truck Can Not Be Half ***. This Is My Baby. My Turbo Busa is completed. Now its Time for My truck

Long tubes, run some high flow cats (will need to extend the o2 sensors). And the rest of your liking all the way out back. check out lightningrodder.com they have a nice selection of HD's that could give ya a bit more help then us here.

Ok! Here's the Scoops! I did the Spin Tech 32210. duel in and out. This was suggested to act as the X pipe to equalize the system. Works great. I don't like the sound though! (compared to what I was running Duel Borla's) Was LOUD!!!!! But this set up has better throttle response and better pick up! Much better Very noticeable. I only did from the upper Cats back. Still looking at the options for the Long Tubes. (Whats Best. Long Lasting) You Know!!!
I actually did it faster than I wanted to due to failing O2 sensors (Upper left "bank #2) causing the truck to run bad. I also found Holes in the exhaust. Even the Borla had a hole in it. this is the reason the company I had install my system doesn't promote Borla. To each his own. Still looking for a Great long lasting set of headers. Any thoughts?

Ok so here’s the update. From the manifold down, all new. 2.5 pipes . High flow cats, Spintech mufflers and all four new O2 sensors. Exit out the right before the rear wheel. I thought she ran fast before!!! Ohhh no. She runs like stole something!!!!! She Goes! That’s all I can say. She Goes.
The biggest problem were the O2 sensors. Hard to believe but they made a huge difference. Especially when the truck started acting up. Chugging and slow throttle response. The last change was the sensors and Man! Even that was a very big noticeable difference. I fell in love all over again. I actually went from a 0-60 in 9sec down to 5.5. Seriously. She was real sluggish when the a/c was on. Not anymore. I jus wanna drive all day!!! My Baby is Back!!!! The Gibson headers are on order!
All of my upgrades will be surrounding the motor. Not to the Motor. She will be getting a new motor in a year that’s why. My list is long! But every month will be an upgrade till the big day.
Tell me what you think about this. A built motor putting out 450rwhp naturally aspirated? Give me your feedback please? Really would like you guys opinion on this one.
