Electrical “Gremlin”

First let me say i’m Embarrassed I couldn’t figure this out myself. I recently bought a 2002 F150 SupCrew/FX4 with 197,000 miles on it as a project truck. It runs great and has no issues for the first month. It had an aftermarket anti-theft/remote starter/immobilizer with no FOB or remote. While driving down the road my ABS light blinks several times, the tach, speedometer and temp/charging gauges peg in both directions. I then lose throttle control and the engine dies. I coast to a stop and spend the next three hours troubleshooting loose connections, etc. when I tried to start it a got the machine gun sound from the dash area/under the hood, as if the starter was not getting enough juice to engage. Of course I had no tools with me. I called my son-in-law and he came to rescue us. After going home I brought back tools and a portable jump starter. The truck started with the assist of the jump starter and then promptly died (x4). I removed the aftermarket gizmo in case it was the problem, it wasn’t. Finally I towed it to the local Ford dealer and $896.00 later I have a new alternator and serpentine belt. So far so good. I hope the helps someone to avoid the very large repair bill.....

It’s been three months and all is well. No additional issues.
