Power Windows
 
1998 Ford F150 - Just replaced the driver side power window motor for the third time. The window only rolls down right after the engine is cranked. I can then roll the window up but not down. Passenger window works fine. Any suggestions?

Sounds like you are having voltage issues. Check the voltage to the switch, from the switch and then grounds. I don't have a electrical schematic for your year, but there might be bad module in the loop. As long as you have the wrong voltage going to the motor, you will burn them out or cause them to work poorly.

i checked the voltage at the window switch and got a 14.32 volt reading across the connections

Sounds like u have a gem module going out. That was the first symptom on my 97 f150 4x4. Followed by the 4 Wheel Drive engaging on its own. Luckily I have a manual shift transfer case so it only locked up the front end it couldn't engage the transfer cases. Check your switch just to be sure. The motor for window only has 2 hot wires in the plug one positive up and one for down the motor makes ground through the motor housing through the door. If you have voltage on the switch it then travels to the gem or body control module as some call it. The gem only controls the drivers side window due to the auto down option. Google gem trouble. U will find agreat deal of info about them shorting out due to a leak the F series & expedition have. Water runs in the lower drivers side of the windshield the gem is located behind the fuse box. It has 3 screws and wires it the fuse box. The best price on gem modules can be found on eBay. Just be sure All the numbers on the gem match the one u order. They are very specific for each truck and the options it has. You could apply voltage to both of the leads individually to confirm that the window motor is good. Just run a wire from the positive post of the battery and touch it to each of the motor wires with the plug disconnected to be absolutely sure, but I would be willing to say it's the gem for sure.
