Default battery light on

Hi- My batterry light came on the dash. I put meter on battery and it reads 12.2. started engine and battery read 14.7. Checked positive terminal of alternator it reads 14.7. I'm thinking the battery won't keep enough charge to turn off the light, and i have a bad couple bad cells. What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance- Chas 2000 4.6 f -150

12.2 is approximately a 25% charged battery. Charge voltage should be between 13.6 and 14.2 v at 2k rpm. Charge battery to 12.6 and have battery tested. If it is not up to par further testing will be suspect. The high charge voltage makes me suspect a bad voltage regulator as well.
