Newer (2007) F150 5 speed swap?
Hello, just jumped over here from ranger forums...I got alot more response on this topic over there than I expected...good advice too. But I figured the "sister" F150 forum might get me even more info. Anyways, here goes.
I wanna swap a 5 speed Trans into my F150. Its currently a 5.4, 4x4, 4r70w Trans I think. Extended cab 6ft bed. I wanted the most direct bolt in swap I could get...so I was figuring an M5OD-R2 would be 90% just that....but then I was told I'd need to keep some extra M5s laying around as theyll get eaten by the 5.4....I RARELY tow with the truck. I drive highway 65miles round trip for work and back....so would it really kill the trans that quick? My other 2 options were the ZF5 and 6. I don't wanna have to get a new transfer case so that leaves me with a ZF5 as the main option. How difficult would this be? I heard I'd need a body lift...and to move the crossmember. Moving the CM isn't too big of a deal, but i never planned on lifting my truck. I can get the hydraulics from a V6 at the JY...slave flywheel clutch etc. from parts store. Is this worth the difficulty? Or should I just wait the year on my loan and trade for a 5 speed ranger instead of refinancing. THanks guys! Bookmarking this site along with my other vehicle forums that i'm active on. :P PS-Tried a search on this topic but kept getting an error saying I was missing a security key or something along those lines.... |
