project for the day: pull heads on a 460 ci
1 Attachment(s)
my project at work for the day. pulled em off, sent them out, and will reassemble when they return. its in a 96 F-SuperDuty. they had way to much pollution crap back then. pain in the butt lol.
either the head gasket was leaking, or the head is cracked(sent out to magnaflux). it was leaking exhaust into the cooling system and overpressuring it. had a lot of rust on the outer headbolts on both sides of the cylinder in question, and some white residue on the piston. should take care of the problem. 4-5 hours to pull them off, with some bs-in in the mix. |
Wow, rebuilding in the truck. So much easier on a engine stand. On the plus side, torquing the heads to yield is easier. I just finished a engine. I use copper spray on RTV on my head gaskets.

probly would have been easier to pull the motor. but, we dont have an engine stand. we're working on that lol. our shop is run by old school grease monkeys that arent up with technology, not that an engine stand is new technology, but they rather struggle than see whats available. and there's 3 of us tech's that are trying to do bigger and more complicated jobs than whats normally been done in the past, so we're getting there. the AIR system on this engine is a PITA!! luckily all bolts came out without too much trouble.

I think mine was like $50 from fleet farm. Well worth the price. Even made a bracket to mount a transmission. Life is so much easier with the right tools. Picked up my engine lift off craigslist.
