Audio/Radio for iPhone
What type of radios are you guys buying to run your iPhone? I am interested in finding a good double din radio and possibly touch screen to play music off my iPhone in good quality with no back feed from the GSM network.

Check out Kenwood. I had the Pioneer F90BT and while it worked fine I prefer the Kenwood double dins interface.
|
I kinda like this JVC but like I said I know nothing about headunits.

Yeah that will work great if you want the Bluetooth. If you dont care about it you can drop down to the 318, save some money.
Right now I have a Kenwood KDC-X794 I think is what the number is. Its just a single din though, my iPhone works perfectly with it for music playback. I don't have the 994 which is the bluetooth model so I can't respond on how that is. I sold my double din to pay for taxes 2 years ago and just got this one as a temporary replacement. Haven't felt the need to upgrade again so have just stuck with this. |
I stuck with my stock head unit for cost and simplicity since it has built-in Sirius and Sync, but if it wasn't so expensive to change everything over I'd get a Kenwood DDX418.

In my 05' F150 I had the Pioneer Z130. I really liked the iPod connectivity it had. It was really easy to navigate and was intuitive. The GPS was rock solid as well!

I may go this route?
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/AppRadio I cant find any info on a Pioneer Z130? |
I really like that one Zach. Pandora integration is totally badass
Amazon has a good price on it, make sure to read the reviews though. Some 2-3 start reviews in there. |
yea the reviews are not good at all!!! :(
|
I will say though when I had my F90BT, I got it pretty soon after it just came out. After a few software updates it was leagues better in functionality and use.
I wouldn't count it out entirely, maybe email Pioneer about it and see if they are working on it. I think I might look into that for a b-day present. I love the app integration. |
Im not completely. 333 for a radio like that seems like a really good price. My superduty wouldnt play CDs for some reason so I never used it. I would much rather prefer my phone. That is where all the music is anyway.
Let me know if you hear of any personal experiences. I cant get it yet as I need other things first. |
Lots of personal experience here. Great site, go-to resource for Pioneer double dins

Sounds like junk from reading that site.

Yeah I saw that too. Quiet unfortunate, I love the idea. Hopefully they can improve on the execution.

Ive ran both the Clarion NX501 and Kenwood in double dinn. Overall, my Kenwood would get stuck with cd's in the tray all the time. When I finally took it back into the shop they said it was a common issue with that mechanism on a few models. The Clarion is was an amazing unit with swipe touch screen, it was sooooo slick and worked so well. This is the unit i had in my X with back up camera, was kick ass.
I think if you shop around you can find an NX501 new for around 600 though msrp is listing around 818. I didnt pay 800, i paid more around 600 myself about 1 year ago when it was just released. |
Check out the double din review on R-F if you are still looking. The Pioneer 4300 looks very nice too.

I just gave up, decided music wasnt that important anyway. lol
