What is the best programmer recommended for 09 f150. Not racing it just everyday driving but, also want the extra power when I want or need extra.. Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

It all depends on how much you are willing to spend. I've had Edge products on several cars and the CTS on my 2004 F-150. They were great and allowed you to use per-programed settings for power, economy and towing.

My mechanic friend told me that getting a custom tune is better for gas trucks instead of getting a programmer. Hope someone here has personal experience with it.

The problem with a custom tune is that when you flash the EPROM, you loose your factory settings and any changes requires you to go back to whomever built your custom tune to change it. A programmer usually saves your stock program and then you can load up pre-set tunes for towing, performance or economy. Good programmers also allow you to build new customs or refine canned ones. Also, there is no such thing a single tune for all seasons.

Do yourself a favor and buy a programmer.

I guess I agree a little bit with the spending part. Still search the right place and you will find the right programmer at the right cost.
