Talking Wife Got A New Job In Oregon!

I guess most of you know me but a few don't...

My wife and I are from Oregon, all of our family and good friends are there. I took a job in Kentucky about 2.5 years ago and we moved out here, it was suppose to be a shorter time here but the economy tanked. We hate it here and really want to be back in Oregon. I haven't been searching too hard for work yet because I can't leave my wife here for another job, and we can't live on one income. Basically someone was going to have to get a new job first and move.

So my wife got a call the other night with a job offer in Eugene, about $10k more per year than her current job. She is going to move in with my oldest brother, his wife and their new baby girl. She will help with the baby in exchange for free rent. This will free me up to look for a new job, even if it's seasonal. I'm hardly ever flying out here and really need to put more time in my logbook to be more marketable.

It looks like I'll be moving her back within a month or so. Should be interesting pulling a small cargo trailer across the country with her car, but I think the TDI will eat it up like nothing. Hopefully the weather will be reasonable this time! I'll drive her back, party with friends for a couple days and airline back here.

I'll be staying here for now, unfortunately. Got to keep paying the bills and look for a new job! We're excited, she's a little scared and doesn't want to leave me here. But we gotta do something, this place is slowly killing us. lol. If I don't find something good after a few months I may just move back and get a crappy job somewhere and do some flight instruction on the side when I can. Quality of life is more important than staying here even with a decent steady income, just can't do this much longer!

Congrats to your wife, and moving back where you would like to be! If you don't find something soon it might be time for a slight career change. I'm sure you could find something within the field.

Well before I started flying I was an aviation line service supervisor (cleaning, detailing, fueling jets etc). I'm sure I can get a job similar to that again but it comes with a big pay cut, and would be temporary. And I could do some flight instruction here and there but not enough for a real pay check right now. The big issue being here and on call all the time is that I can't go out and meet people in the industry. I can't visit employers in person, and my work is 90% off airport so I almost never talk to other pilots.

If I can't pickup something decent flying I will likely start applying for law enforcement jobs with the help of a few friends. I just really hate to get away from flying for long as it can be tough to keep an edge and get back in, so I may have to suck it up here for a while until I can land something decent. Some friends want me to be chief instructor at their small school but they are too slow right now anyway. If our dumbass president would let everyone get back on the bus in the offshore oil I probably would have had a great job a couple years ago. As it stands now a LOT of people are predicting huge layoffs since they are not issuing permits.

Haha, yeah, tough times right now. There are plenty of jobs out there, but they are usually never in the right occupation. So you have to start over, which most likely means a pay cut.

Awesome Brian!!! You can finally get out of KY, I know you haven't been really happy there for a while now. Good luck with the job search!
