Default Gas leak on 2006 XL 4.2L

Thirty miles from home yesterday when I smelled gas. I was stuck in traffic at a huge shopping mall. I looked under truck and gas was just shy of streaming from center of tank. I left the truck at a ford dealer that was just across the street. Does top of tank have seal that can go bad? Is the tank pressurized? Would like to get truck home and repair myself instead of dealer. Any information is appreaciated.

Could have punctured the tank, or perhaps a fuel hose is cracked.

Welcome to F-150 Forums Bill!

There is a gasket/seal in the top of the tank where the fuel pump & fuel gauge assembly is mounted to the tank.

Thanks Bob and Kris for your response. The pressurized fuel line ruptured just above the tank. I still love my truck.
