I posted this last week on another forum. Figured it was time to post it on here too.

I got bored on this past Saturday and decided to do the "headlight mod" to my headlights. I did this on my 02' Ranger and they turned out pretty good.
Heres the pics.

I baked them at 250 degrees for about 10 min. The first light had to be reheated a few times till I could find the best way to remove the plastic cover.

Sealed them up with black silicone (put it on pretty thick).

Can that same method you used for the head lights work for the tail lights as well?

After doing mine I'm not sure I want to go thru the hassle again, separating the lens was such a pain

 

I used to work for a company that made headlamps and those lenses are not made to come off of the housings after they are assembled. There are a couple types of glues used to seal up the lamps, we used a 2 part epoxy, others used a hot melt glue with silicone.

Tail lamps are usually a different animal completely. Some are glued (usually the larger units) but the typical method for assembling the tail lamps is one form of plastic welding (using heat or ultrasonics) and sometime a screw or two in there as well.

That being said, I did not work for the company that made the lamps for the F-150 so I don't know for sure how they are assembled, but I can guess.

Anyway, the results do look very good. Beware of fogging your lamps, try to make sure to keep them dry when working on them.

Edit: I just noticed that you made the bulb shield black, how did you do that? The bulbs do get very hot and you don't want the black paint on the shield flaking off inside the lamp.
