Default Fuel Economy with the Ecoboost

Hey Guys,

I was wondering, I have 25+ km's on my '11 FX4 and i am only getting low 13's L/100km with my milage... I reset it every tank, almost get 700Km's to a tank, depends on how far I stretch it. I drive about 70km on the highway (120-130km/h) and 20km's on other roads (80 km/h) to work, i would say about 80% of each tank is highway. I was told by my buddy (service manager at the dealership) i would get better milage around the 20k km's range. I am due for an oil change at 27k km's says the sticker in the window. I will see what it does after that, if not i am going to see what my buddy can do... maybe chip it.

I have to say for those Ecoboost owners out there, i am very impressed with the engines power and the towing ability. We tow trailers about 5 times a month around to different sites and its a great all around truck. As well, the interior is amazing, I bought my wife a '08 expedition and we took it to Florida and it's not as comfortable as my truck, wish i had a cap and took the truck and we would have taken it!

Anyway, feedback about the milage is appreciated,

Grant

I don't have the EcoBoost Not available in 2010, They are, as you have said, fantastic engines, I have the 5.4 in my Platinum and I have just got back home (Manitoba) from a run from Alberta and I got 1110 Klms to a full tank of gas at a steady 120klms/hr. That is approx 25 to the imperial gallon (21 to the US gallon). I do believe that the press are saying you should be able to better the gas mileage by 10% with your engine..! Good luck..! Gotta love these things, Quiet, Comfortable & so well finished off...! Never used to get anywhere near that with my Cobra Mustang...

The best milage I have seen on my ecoboost is 23.5 mpg running between 65-80 mph and 19 in town.

Ha ha ha, I used to be happy with the milage i used to get with my 2004 GT!

The Ecoboost is better using 91 octane, I track it by L/100Km's and I am around the 12 mark down from 14 with 87 octane, its not what was advertised but ok. My wife has the 5.4 in her 2008 expedition and there is no comparison, the Ecoboost is far better with power, sound and over all feel. I will only buy Ecoboost engines moving forward.

I was reading a Motor Trend magazine today and am surprised at the subtle difference between the gas mileage for each of the 4 engine options. I'd still take the 5.0 myself.

Is the EcoBoost required to take 91 octane?

You might review my profile. At 19,500 miles based on axle ratio etc, you may not experience what you anticipated. After fully breaking in the engine you might want to review the spark gap. Less is MORE, you may want to close your gap a couple of thousanths.
Note: Slick50 is compatible with synthetic blend. As for owning a 4x4 Supercrew with maximum trailer tow, the axle ratio will reduce your top end towing speed and overall fuel economy. As for tuning and mods you're subject to voiding your warranty.
Will it tow, YES.... will it deliver the fuel economy you expected? You be the judge!
