Default Ford F-150 Powertrains Head-To-Head Comparison



In its official website, Ford has released a comparison of different engines in the F-150 lineup. In this interactive comparison tool, customers can compare the 3.5 liter EcoBoost V6, 3.7-liter V6, 5.0-liter V8 and 6.2-liter V8 engine head-to-head according to his/her towing or hauling requirement.

The 3.5 liter EcoBoost model has an output of 365 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. This model has a maximum towing capacity of 11,300 pounds and maximum hauling capacity of 3060 pounds. The rated fuel economy is 22 mpg in highway and 16 mpg in city driving.

The most powerful engine in the lineup, the 6.2 liter V8 has an output of 411 horsepower and 434 lb-ft of torque. This model has a maximum towing capacity of 11,300 pounds, same as the EcoBoost model. The maximum hauling capacity is 1,680 pounds. The rated fuel economy is 18 mpg in highway and 13 mpg in city driving.

The 5.0 liter V8 engine is rated at 360 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque. This model has a maximum towing capacity of 10,000 pounds, second best in the lineup. The maximum hauling capacity is 3,060 pounds, same as the EcoBoost model. The rated fuel economy is 21 mpg in highway and 15 mpg in city driving.

If only they can get the new transmissions to do the same.

I've heard reports that the tranny is still in need of some tough love. Seems like every model change with the F-150, Ford knocks it out of the ball park on the motor and style, but the transmission/rear end lacks the same care and commitment.
