Default 91 f150 4x4

Hey everyone. Im looking at getting a old used truck to haul my 4wheelers, pull a 18'trailer, and to have for around the house to just haul stuff and for all them times you wished you had an older dont really care if it gets a ding here or there kinda truck. I was looking on c.l. and ran across a 91 f150 4x4. I talked to the guy and he says its a decent truck, runs good, 4x4 works good, just replaced starter, all it needs is rear brakes. He said when he got it it was beat and rusty so he did some body work and primed it. It has the 351 bored to 400. Also use to be a manual but its now an auto. Said it was that way when he got it. Also said it use to have the exhaust that ran up threw the bed and above the cab, but now it had duells straight back. I dont know much about this kind of stuff. Do you think that it had all this changed at once? Like motor tranny and pipes changed? I really dont know why they would run pipes like that in this kind of truck. He says truck has 143000 miles, but not sure about motor. He is asking $1000. Here is c.l. site it is at if you want to take a look. http://columbiamo.craigslist.org/cto/3002428995.html. Seem like a good deal? What should i look for and be cautious about. Thanks alot for answering my novice questions, i really appreciate it.

I would go out and take a look at it and check for rust (inside fender wells, door bottoms, nose clip), damage to the frame or alterations to the frame, verify tire wear, check the exhaust (rust, leaks, holes), look at the tranny fluid (burnt smell, metal flecks in it, discoloration), check the coolant, check the oil (any coolant or water in it), check the interior (mold, tears), check how they blocked the fire wall with the removal of the clutch/pedal assembly or did they keep it, how was the bed repaired after the exhaust was re-routed and then take it for a test drive. If you have a trusted mechanic, you may drive it to him/her and have them take a look at it. Then, you can decide if $1000 is fair or not.

i really appreciate it. The more i think about it the more i get worried that its not worth the money. Guy said he would do 850, and that was over the phone. Who knows what cash in person would do for the price. 850 isnt alot of money but its alot of money to get a truck and have it break down the next day or week.
