Latest findings:


With the TPS removed from the throttle body, and still plugged in to the harness...
at rest: 0.5 VDC
wide open: 5.0 VDC

At 0.5 VDC, the scan tool thinks it is at 10% open.

I am going to assume that if the TPS reads 0.5 VDC at rest, then it has to be good. I don't know why the scan tool reads 10%.

I'll hook it all back up and see what happens with the idle...

I had to file the TPS mounting holes in order to get the minimum setting of 0.5vdc.

The TPS just wouldn't rotate any more closed.

I hooked everything back up and checked the scan tool.... the TPS still reads 10%.


I started her up.... idle started around 1800 and then ramped down to 850.


It sounds normal now.



What an ordeal!!!



My advice to anyone having a high idle problem: get a scan tool and check your TPS open %. Anything more than 11%... adjust your TPS.

they are certainly worth having,i have one that can do up the 05 model year and i can update it to do the 2010 or 11 models.i can do my older Fords with it as well.

Update....

In digging around on the internet, it looks like there are three sensors. An air tem sensor mounted on the air box, a gauge temperature sensor mounted on the manifold, and the ECT mounted near the thermostat.

I'll have to verify that tomorrow. Hopefully, there is a test to determine if the ECT is good...
