Default 98 F150 Lariat 4x4 paint peeling on plastic dash trim

]I have a 98 f150 lariat 4x4 that I am giving to my 16 year old son . It's in excellent condition and after putting a little money into it (front end , wheel bearings, seat covers , power window motors etc ) it is looking good driving sound and ready to go . However there seems to have been a problem with the paint on the plastic trim on the dash . The paint is flaking and peeling . The plastic underneath is black and that's the color that I want . The neoprene seat covers that I ordered are Black and Tan so that would compliment the black trim around the instrument panel and radio . My thought is to remove the trim myself and attempt to power wash the paint off . It peels off by just scraping it lightly with my finger nail . Any thoughts on a fix ? And also I was wondering just how easy the trim will come off ? I have removed door panels off before to fix latch cables for 3rd door . Is this similar ? I really need to get this trim to black .

The plastic trim will pop off. Just be careful and use some automotive trim tools to help ease the trim pieces off. You can use trim pain that you can get at most auto parts stores.

Thanks ! I am gonna try to remove as much as I can . Only bolts I can actually see right now are the ones on the underside of the part where speedometer and gauges are .
