Default 2005 trans shakes trying to go it O.D.

i have a 2005 f-150 fx4 and at certian speeds, around 40 to 50 mph, the trucks starts to shake like it cant decide to go into overdrive or not. if i give it more gas it changes gears and stops shaking. turning off od does the same thing. the trans fluid is clean and doesnt smell burnt or have any metal shavings in it, so i think it is an electronic problem. appriciate any help

My 2004 FX4 did the same thing then threw a transmission code and died. I ended up dropping $3600 for a new transmission. I would drop the pan, change the filter and put new transmission fluid in. If that helps, then awesome. If not, then its off to look at the electronics.

Default thanks purplehazier

thanks, i will change the trans fluid and filter this weekend. somebody told me if i disconnect the battery overnight and then reconnect it, it will reset the computer and may help with the electronic part of the trans problem. does that sound plausible?

Disconnecting the negative from the battery for around 15 to 20 minutes will probably drop any minor codes that the OBDII computer has. However it will not clear hard codes. Also by doing this it resets the computer back to default. So you'll experience bad fuel mileage for a bit until it relearns your driving habits. As mentioned before about the tranny throwing a code then dying, it was a hard code and wil not be cleared by disconnecting the battery. I would try doing a filter and fluid change along with a flush. If that doesn't work then it most likely the module that controls shifting.
