Keep up on all your maintenance, properly inflate your tires, take it really easy on the go pedal. Also don't lift or put bigger tires on the truck is fuel economy is a concern.

If you dropped in an OEM paper filter you would have gotten the same result, without the dirt and oil into your engine.

If the K&N filter is charged right, you won't get it's oil into your engine. I've seen them after people clean them, then over oil them and then the oil can screw up the MAF and cause some poor running.

I used to like them, but when I saw no benefit I went back to high quality paper filters. They are cheaper and you don't have to worry about over or under oiling.
