My plugs didn't really look bad with 68k on them, I'll take some pictures of them tonight. 3 came out fine though and the other 5 broke.

I had more success than Ford did getting them out lol

Newly designed plugs? Are these a new Motorcraft plug? Do you have the P/N?

I don't think a smaller diameter GND shield would solve the problem. The larger gap between the GND shield and head would just fill up with carbon.

The problem seems to be the 2 pieces welded together.

Did your cousin's friend go into detail on the process he used to remove them Trent?

Thanks!

maybe? depends i guess. hard to describe... if you are going to pay to have them done why not wait until its a issue. if you are going to do them yourself, why not do it often.

Based on what I've read, with 75K miles, the plugs will probably break when they are removed. And since I don't have the tools to remove the broken GND shields, I'll probably have somebody else do it.

I did talk to a friend who is a Ford mechanic in Romney, Wv, and said to come on up and "we" would change the plugs in it. He said he has done hundreds of them, and he hasn't had one that at least 1 plug didn't break. He has all the tools for removing the broken parts.

He followed the TSB, letting them soak and then trying to remove them

part number is sp-515 pzh14f (dealer told me that it is a different part number then the originals that came in the truck), they changed the design though its "supposed to be easier to get out next time"

Thanks for the information! I'll have to try and see what the differences are.
