1984 F150

Hi all, I have an 84 F-150 4WD standard short bed with a six in it. I am having terrible problems with fuel starvation, which seem to be due to the computer controlled carburetor. Can I get rid of this carburetor in favor of an old fashioned one? I don't want to spend 200 bucks on a rebuilt if I could get a new one of any type without the computer issue. We don't have emissions testing here, btw. Would like to dispose of computer entirely if possible. Any suggestions?

I don't think it's the computer. It has: new tank, new Mercedes fuel injection line all the way back to it. New electric fuel pump, new filters, took the carb apart, and it was spotless within, cleaned it anyway, new float at parts store to be picked up tomorrow. My question about replacing with an old fashioned carb is because the only thing I can see which might be causing the continuing problem is the solenoid (computer adjusted on the side of the carb). I don't know how to work on, test, repair, or even find new ones. I feel OK with standard old fashioned carbs, which I can work on. Electronics are just too complicated for me. I like simple.
The truck will run all day, at any speed if not under load. When loaded it bogs down and stalls. Starts right up again, as though fuel pump isn't keeping up, but have tried two new pumps, mechanical, then electric. You can see why I don't want to buy a new carb. Pretty soon I'll have replaced the whole truck. (Oh yeah, new ignition switch gear, tires, radiator, too.)
So, badly in need of advice, hopefully not "Throw this truck away".
