Hi guys. I am new and glad to find you all. This site looks amazing.

Five years ago I bought a 1990 Ford F-150 2x4 reg cab Long bed, 300 I6 auto with OD from a distant relative after her husband died.

They got it new and it has never towed or had anything in the bed.
The truck is two tone white and red. 88,000 miles. Runs perfect and even the a/c works.

I need to tow a 4000 lb car from Iowa to Arkansas on a 1800lb trailer. My great aunt is dying and gave me her 1984 Oldsmobile 98 Diesel 4dr red. I have begged for this car since I was a kid. I am 35 now. It has 22,000 one owner miles and has never been out in the sun. This car hasn't been ran in 6 years. My great aunt is fearful of the low sulfur diesel and hasn't let anyone start the car since it had the last tank of non low sulfur diesel put in the car in 2007. Is my truck heavy enough? I just don't trust the car and that is why I want to tow it.

Will my transmission hold up?

I may just pick up a heavier truck. My neighbor's wife just died and he said he is going to sell everything and move to be near his daughter including his like new 1986 F-250 Sig cab long bed 2x4 6.9 Diesel Auto. 73,000 miles. Never pulled anything. He wants $5000 for the truck. No rust, never sat out in the sun, so it still looks brand new.

If my 90 isn't strong enough, would this 86 Diesel tend to hold up? Were the 80's Diesels good?

My 1990 has new tires, battery, water pump, belt, both fuel pumps work, trans pan dropped and new fluid and filter 15,000 miles ago, all new coolant system hoses, original spare tire, but in good shape. The under side of the engine and transmission are both bone dry. In side of engine looks new, the truck is a true time capsule.
