Default Bouncy Shifts on 1990

Trying to figure out why my truck bounces a bit, sometimes, when I shift. Other times it shifts smooth. I thought it was a bad engine mount, still could be. I checked them and there is some play, but not a lot. I drove up on to the ramps and watched the engine and it didn't seem to shift a lot. So I poked around looking for anything loose. All I found was a worn out U joint on the front diff at the input shaft. No big deal, I'll swap that out in spring. Anything else I should check? Don't seem to mater if it's 2wd or 4wd. Also noticed a big of a bounce when driving in cruise. This is why I'm still thinking motor mount. When the weather is better I may just lift the engine and pull all the mounts and inspect them.

I really got up inside and looked close. The left motor mount looked a little odd. So I poked the rubber and pieces started falling out. Looks like I'm picking up a new motor mount and replacing that come spring.

I think I might need to pick up a new right exhaust manifold as well.

Yepper Dan! That will do it. The location of the motor mounts on the early F-150 made the really susceptible to gunk and moisture, and that can degrade them pretty quick. In your case, I bet the prior owner probably felt them go back in 1995 or so!

Hay there Kevin. Thanks. Ya, looks like there is little rubber left. I may just replace both of them seeing they only cost about $22 each. The rear trans mount looked OK.
