Default truck problems

Hi my name is Clint and I have a 1987 ford f-150 with the 302 engine and I think I am having issues with the fuel system. It will fire right up and runs for about ten min. then it will start to run rough and sputter then it will die. It will fire up anr run for a second ord two then after that it won't start for a few hours and then it does the same process again. I put a new fuel filter on. I checked both of the pumps in the tanks and they work, but I am wondering if the main fuel pump quits working? confused on what is going on. Thanks Clint

Start with testing the fuel pressure. however, I do believe you have a pump in each tank, so in my eyes that would rule out fuel, but still test it.

Here's my thoughts. This happens after the engine heats up, and then wont start again after it's hot but will after it cools down. The coil is what I would be looking at. I actually just did a write up on testing your coil. https://www.f150-forums.com/1987-1996-ford-f150-16/how-test-your-coil-546/ The coil is easy to replace and should be under $20
