2001 xlt bed has rust
Looking to buy a 2001 150 xlt. Great condition, except for the bed. It has a liner, but there is a spot where there is rust through about the size of a quarter. More importantly, one of the three 2x2 perpendicular support bars nearest the liftgate is very very rusted, and the ends are rusted out. The owner indicated they thought about putting a new bar across to support the bed.
Is this a big deal, is there any repairs, easily, for it. Just not familiar too much with trucks but I generally dont like rust. Thought this might last for several years ok?
thanks

The problem with rust is that if you don't inhibit it correctly, it will continue to grow and get worse over time. When you start dealing with structural members, you will have a challenge in scabbing in good steel around old steel, while making certain that you have cut out all the rust. If possible, take the truck to a body shop and get an estimate. That will tell you if the truck is worth it or not.
