Hello. This is most likely a simple fix but one I haven't encountered before. I have an '06 F150 SCAB 4WD, bone stock 4.6L. I need to upgrade the alternator charging wire and ground cable to be able to handle to extra amps. I'm now running several lights, big winch, power steps and other misc. drains on the electrical system so it's not an option, it's required. There's three fusible links in OEM cable (pic attached), two 12 GA wires acting as the fusible links for the charging cable and pig tailed into that is an 18ga fusible link connected to what, I'm unsure atm. I'm asking if it would be OK to run a 2AWG cable with an inline 250 amp fuse to take the place of the two 12GA wires and just connect the remaining 18GA fusible link to one side of the fuse?
Thank you for the response.
I wanted to make sure I'm clear as to what you're explaining.
I'm to leave the factory charging wire in place and undisturbed?
When I add the upgraded 4GA wire for the 200 amp unit, I'm adding the new wire to the post on the alternator that has the OEM wire connected to it currently? Both wires will be connected to the alternator?
It isn't making sense but I am obviously no electrician and don't comprehend how this works correctly. Thanks for any insight.
That's what I thought but the OE charging wire has one 18GA fusible link that branches into a small connector. It goes back toward the PCM but I'm not sure and I want to keep it connected so no problems arise. It's in the pic, the small brown wire...that's my only issue at this point. I can have the cable made in minutes.
